PLEASE NOTE: Since plants are often sourced from the garden to order, sizes do vary a little, depending on how they come out of the ground, but I always endeavour to give a little more rather than less! They are sometimes shipped bare-rooted, but will approximate the size specified (e.g. a 9cm pot).
Aconitum Carmichaelii Var. arendsii
Sowing and/or growing instructions
All aconitums are very poisonous - always wear gloves when handling the seeds or plants. Seed should be sown as fresh as possible, but within the months indicated here: either sow direct, September to December , thinning or transplanting seedlings as they appear, or January to March, placing seeds on damp kitchen towel in a sealed plastic bag and refrigerating for 21 days, then sowing, 5 mm deep in pots containing good quality, soilless compost. Germination can be erratic, taking up to a year, but some seedlings should appear within a month or two. It is important to ensure that both direct and potted sowings are always kept moist but not waterlogged. Transplant seedlings into individual pots and grow on, planting out when large enough, 12-18 in/30-60 cm apart.
