PLEASE NOTE: Since plants are often sourced from the garden to order, sizes do vary a little, depending on how they come out of the ground, but I always endeavour to give a little more rather than less! They are sometimes shipped bare-rooted, but will approximate the size specified (e.g. a 9cm pot).
Lovely climber for a warm wall!
This vine-like plant is attractive in all respects, but particularly for its stunningly coloured berries, which range from soft blue-green through turquoise to purple. It grows vigorously in the right conditions. Positioning on a sheltered south-facing wall in poorish soil and restricting root growth gives the best environment for reliable and copious fruiting. It is self supporting, producing both sticky pads and tendrils.
Sowing and/or growing instructions
Sow in a cold frame in autumn, 3-5mm deep. Germination is generally easy, but can be erratic. Young plants can be frost tender, so some protection is advisable until the plant is well established. Even mature plants may succumb to a hard winter unless grown in a very sheltered position.
