PLEASE NOTE: Since plants are often sourced from the garden to order, sizes do vary a little, depending on how they come out of the ground, but I always endeavour to give a little more rather than less! They are sometimes shipped bare-rooted, but will approximate the size specified (e.g. a 9cm pot).

A spring-flowering plant, having a cone of inflorescences surrounded by 4-9 white bracts which look like petals. This plant needs moisture and should always have its feet in water, so is a good choice as a marginal pond plant. It has many uses, ranging from herbal to crafts (for instance, the roots are used by Native American Indians to make beads), pot pourri and decorative dried arrangements.
Sowing and/or growing instructions
Sow seed 5mm deep in pots in a greenhouse in summer, standing the pots in about 3cm of water. Pot on seedlings as they germinate and grow on under glass for their first winter, planting out the following late spring or early summer. |
