PLEASE NOTE: Since plants are often sourced from the garden to order, sizes do vary a little, depending on how they come out of the ground, but I always endeavour to give a little more rather than less! They are sometimes shipped bare-rooted, but will approximate the size specified (e.g. a 9cm pot).
Centaurea cyanus 'Black Ball'
An annual that ticks all the boxes! The unusual deep purple - almost black - double blooms on tall stems are a wonderful cut flower and also attract all kinds of pollinators.
Sowing and/or growing instructions
Very simple - sow direct in autumn or spring, raking in gently so that seeds are covered. Thin plants to a foot or so apart. Autumn-sown plants can reach a final height of well over a metre. Can also be sown thinly in modules, 6mm deep, thinning to one plant per cell and planting out when large enough.
