PLEASE NOTE: Since plants are often sourced from the garden to order, sizes do vary a little, depending on how they come out of the ground, but I always endeavour to give a little more rather than less! They are sometimes shipped bare-rooted, but will approximate the size specified (e.g. a 9cm pot).

Germination of stored seed can be erratic, so best sown outside in autumn, while still fresh. Sow on the surface of moist but free-draining, gritty compost, covering with a thin layer of grit or vermiculite to help retain moisture. A period of cold aids germination, so keep the sown seeds in a cool, sheltered place such as a cold frame over the winter. If the winter is particularly mild, germination may be aided by placing the sown pot, sealed in a plastic bag, into a fridge for a few weeks to simulated winter conditions, checking now and then for germination. Grow seedlings on in the original pots, only transplanting in their second year into separate pots or modules. Please note that flowering will not occur until bulbs are mature, which may not occur for some years. |
