PLEASE NOTE: Since plants are often sourced from the garden to order, sizes do vary a little, depending on how they come out of the ground, but I always endeavour to give a little more rather than less! They are sometimes shipped bare-rooted, but will approximate the size specified (e.g. a 9cm pot).
Knautia macedonica, Ex. pink
Pincushion flower, Macedonian Scabious (Pink)
Seeds sold out for now
Masses of very delicate pink, 'pincushion' flowers (very like scabious), about an inch across, on tall, thin, branching stems. This plant has a very long flowering season and is much loved by howerflies and bees. Taller plants may benefit from light support. Please note that a dark-red variety is also grown in the garden so there may possibly be some cross-pollination.
Sowing and/or growing instructions
Direct sow, thinly or, for more control, in pots or a seed tray under glass at a temperature of about 70F/21C, moving to individual pots as the plants develop and planting out after all risk of frost.
