PLEASE NOTE: Since plants are often sourced from the garden to order, sizes do vary a little, depending on how they come out of the ground, but I always endeavour to give a little more rather than less! They are sometimes shipped bare-rooted, but will approximate the size specified (e.g. a 9cm pot).
Lathyrus latifolius Ex. Alba
Everlasting Sweet Pea
Although unscented, the everlasting sweet pea is most attractive grown against a sunny wall, trellis or fence - or permitted to grow through a large shrub or small tree - and provides masses of flower stems. Very suitable for cutting. These seeds are gathered from Lathyrus latifolius 'Alba' and are greenish white in bud, becoming pure white when mature. However, they may not come true - sometimes dark or light pink forms appear, but the pale coloured seeds supplied are more likely to produce white plants.
Sowing and/or growing instructions
Pour hot (not boiling!) water over seeds, and soak for 1-3 days until the seeds swell. It may be a good idea to first nick the seed coat. Sow at 70F/20C, 1in deep, transplanting seedlings to individual pots when they are large enough to handle. Pinch out the growing tip after 4 pairs of true leaves have formed. Harden off and plant in final position.
