PLEASE NOTE: Since plants are often sourced from the garden to order, sizes do vary a little, depending on how they come out of the ground, but I always endeavour to give a little more rather than less! They are sometimes shipped bare-rooted, but will approximate the size specified (e.g. a 9cm pot).
Antirrhinum majus 'Black Prince'
Snapdragon 'Black Prince'
Although strictly speaking perennial, antirrhinums are more often treated as annuals. This variety, which is tall, with deep, red-green foliage and very dark red (almost black) blooms, makes a dynamic statement, particularly when grown next to plants with light-green foliage. Highly recommended.
Sowing and/or growing instructions
Antirrhinums need light to germinate. Sow in Spring, covering with a very thin layer of soil or compost. Transfer seedlings to pots or modules and grow on until large enough to plant out, 6-10in/15-25-mm apart. Germination time 7-14 days. Plant in sun or part-shade. Although generally sturdy plants that cope well with the elements, in exposed, windy situations a little light support may be beneficial.
