A classic cottage garden plant with delicate sprays of white, pink or red flowers held above grey green foliage. Perfectly happy in poor, stony, chalky soil, but is will tolerate other more-or-less neutral soil types. Although a perennial, perhaps better treated as a biennial as older plants tend to become very woody and rather lax. I have collected the seeds of each colour separately but cannot guarantee that all will come true.
Sowing and/or growing instructions
Sow direct April-June, just covering with soil, thinning young plants to 12in apart. Alternatively, sow under glass. Do not cover the seed with compost, just press into the surface. Place pot in a plastic bag, keeping moist but not waterlogged, until germination occurs (21-30 days). Transfer seedlings to modules or small pots. Acclimatise to outdoor conditions and plant out 12 inches apart. N.B. May contain chaff - just sow contents of packet. |
