An unusual woodland iris with dingy yellow/brown flowers with a purplish tinge, arising from stiff, sword shaped foliage. The flowers are followed by large green seedpods that open to reveal neat rows of bright red seeds. Don't be put off by the name - any smell is only apparent when the plant tissue is damaged, and although not particularly pleasant, is not overwhelming.

NOTE: Depending on season, plants, when available, may be trimmed back and/or barerooted for shipping.

Sowing and/or growing instructions
In nature, the seeds are deposited when they are still moist, in autumn. Dried seed can be sown at more or less any time, but may be tricky to germinate. To aid water absorption, carefully nick the seedcoat with a sharp knife and then pour over medium-hot (certainly nowhere near boiling!) water and soak for 24-48 hours. Then cold stratify by placing seed in a plastic bag, along with a handful of damp, fresh seed compost and storing in the fridge for 3 months. Then sow .25in/6mm deep, in pots or modules at a temperature of about 68F/20C. Keep damp but not waterlogged. Germination may take several months, so be patient!
