Knautia macedonica, Ex. red
Pincushion flower, Macedonian scabious (Red)
|
||||||||||||
Masses of very delicate, deep-red, 'pincushion' flowers (very like scabious), about an inch across, on tall, thin, branching stems. This plant has a very long flowering season and is much loved by hoverflies and bees. Generally not as tall and robust as her pink sister, and seed is in shorter supply, hence lower seed count, but please note that there might possibly be some cross-pollination betwee this and the pink variety, as both are grown in the garden.
Sowing and/or growing instructions
Direct sow, thinly or, for more control, in pots or a seed tray under glass at a temperature of about 70F/21C, moving to individual pots as the plants develop and planting out after all risk of frost. |
