This delicate species pelargonium/geranium, which is a hybrid between P. lobatum and P. fulgidum, is very difficult to propagate and is therefore always in short supply. It has small, bright green leaves and clusters of small, rich vermillion flowers with a darker, almost black, splash on each petal. Like most pelargoniums, it is frost tender, but it will sit happily on a sunny window sill indoors over winter, although it may sometimes become dormant.
Sowing and/or growing instructions
A tuberous plant that will thrive in a sunny, sheltered spot outdoors, but will also be happy in a bright window indoors, which is the perfect way to overwinter the plant, during which time it should be kept very slightly moist - over-watering can rot the tuber. It will often go dormant any time from late summer onwards, losing all its leaves, but will produce new foliage in the spring. Keep tidy and disease-free by remove spent flower stems and dead leaves. |
