Anthemis tinctoria 'Sauce Hollandaise'
Mayweed, Golden Marguerite, Dyer's Chamomile
Type/Hardiness Herbaceous, Perennial, Hardy
Flowering period Summer
Height 18-36in/0.5-1m
Light preference Sun
Soil preference Any, free-draining
Sowing time/depth February-July, barely cover
With its masses of creamy-yellow daisy-like flowers on wiry stems with finely divided aromatic foliage, this drought-tolerant plant is a bright and cheerful choice for dry areas, although it will be happy in most soils. Cut back hard in the autumn to encourage strong new shoots in the spring. The plant can be used to produce a dye.

N.B. Plants, when offered, whether plugs or bare-rooted, will have a good root system but, depending on season, may in some cases be delivered with top growth trimmed back to encourage bushiness as plants develop. All will quickly develop into perfectly good plants!

Sowing and/or growing instructions
Seeds are very fine and it is not possible to separate them completely from the chaff, but this is not a problem - just dust the surface of filled pots or modules with some of the contents of the packet. Keep moist, but not waterlogged, at 21C/70F. Do not exclude light; this is necessary for germination, which will take 2-4 weeks. Acclimatise young plants to outside conditions and grown on in pots until large enough to plant out. Anthemis tinctoria will take very easily from small cuttings - just heel them into the ground in a moist (but not waterlogged), shady spot or push into pots containing gritty compost, firming around the stems. Mature plants will benefit from some light support.
