This beautiful perennial climber scrambles happily over trellis or support on a wall and provides a profusion of bright yellow lantern-like flowers throughout the summer, followed by attractive seed heads that resemble silvery tassels. Provision of shade at the roots is advisable, particularly in very sunny positions. If space is restricted, can be cut back to about 6 inches from the ground in winter.
Sowing and/or growing instructions
Very easy from seed. Sow 5mm deep in a compost and sand/grit mixture, June-July. Keep moist and provide some cover until seedlings are established, but no heat is required. Grow on in 3in pots and plant out in a sunny position in good soil. Jan-March sowings under glass (no heat required) may reward with blooms in the first year. Germination usually occurs within 28 days but can be erratic. |
