Epimedium x versicolor 'Sulphureum'
Epimedium, Horny Goat Weed, Barrenwort
Type/Hardiness Herbaceous, Perennial, Hardy
Flowering period Spring
Height 8-12in/20-30cm
Light preference Shade/part shade
Soil preference Any reasonable soil; drought-tolerant
Sowing time/depth ,
Delicate sprays of soft-yellow flowers appear on slender, straight, stems from early Spring, followed by somewhat heart-shaped leaves which quickly develop beautiful bronze markings and are retained throughout the winter. This is a rather shorter epimedium than most and is a perfect choice for the front of a dry border and under trees in woodland areas.
Sowing and/or growing instructions
A very easy plant to care for - the main thing to remember is that the foliage should be cut back to the base in late winter so that the flowers, which appear in early Spring, before the fresh leaves, are not hidden from view. Epimediums are very drought-tolerant once established.
