Helenium autumnale Ex. Rubinzwerg
Helen's Flower, Sneezewort
|
||||||||||||
Although this helenium has daisy-like, mahogany red flowers with a brown cone, these seeds will be variable - but whatever comes up should be attractive in the hot bed and you may even discover a gem!
Sowing and/or growing instructions
It is not possible to sort the seeds from the chaff, but the packet will contain hundreds of seeds. Sow the contents fairly liberally in Spring at 70F/20C, under glass, barely covering with a little compost or vermiculite. Prick out seedlings and grow on, planting out when no risk of frost. Since these seeds will not come true, the best method of propagation is to split plants you like in future. Plants are best divided in spring as autumn divisions often die. It is impossible to fully isolate the seed, so the packet contains chaff... just sow from the contents more liberally than would be usual. |
