I've never known anyone unfamiliar with this delightful plant not to request it when they see it in bloom in the garden! The domed flower heads are composed of masses of small blooms, lime green at first, turning creamy-white (and almost spherical) when in full bloom and a lovely parchment colour as they go over. The flowers heads can reach a foot in diameter and are dynamic in both fresh and dried flower arrangements. | ||||||||||||

Really a very easy plant to grow, but needs adequate moisture and will probably require some support, as the flower heads can become quite heavy, particularly after rain. To encourage the largest flower heads, make sure to cut hard back to within 4 inches of the ground in early Spring. For smaller, but more numerous blloms (my preference) cut back to 12-18 inches. This plant spreads by creating side shoots with their own roots, which can either be removed and disposed of or (a much better idea) they make wonderful gifts! |
