Linum grandiflorum var. rubrum
Scarlet flax | ||||||||||||
|
||||||||||||
Like the more familiar blue and white variety, Linum usitatissimum, Scarlet flax produces a profusion of small flowers with a satiny finish, but - as is obvious from the name - they are a rich red. A very worthwhile annual to grow.
Sowing and/or growing instructions
Easiest sown direct, either in spring or in the autumn. Lightly rake into soil that has been worked to a fine tilth and let nature take its course! Thin to 3-6in apart. Can also be sown 3mm deep in pots and raised under cover for early spring flowering. |
