False Lily-of-the-Valley has beautiful, heart-shaped, mid-green leaves, which are shiny and textured with deep veins. Slender spikes bearing waxy, creamy-white blooms appear in Spring and early Summer, followed by green berries, which later turn translucent red. Prefers shade and nitrogen-rich soil, making this a good plant for underplanting in woodland areas. Also a good container plant if it is kept moist and provided with adequate shade. Although not quite as enthusiastic as our familiar ('true') Lily-of-the-Valley, Maianthemum dilatatum can be invasive, but with careful siting it should be relatively trouble-free. | ||||||||||||

A simple plant to care for so long as it receives enough moisture and shade. Fork out unwanted growth to keep in check and avoid letting it grow through other plants, making removal difficult. |
