Veronica longifolia (pink)
Garden Speedwell, Pink
Type/Hardiness Herbaceous, Perennial, Hardy
Flowering period June-September
Height 24-36in/.7-1m
Light preference Full sun/Part shade
Soil preference Moist, well-drained
Sowing time/depth Autumn, Spring, barely cover
A much rarer form than the well known blue veronica, this variety is in pretty shades of pink. The spikes of tiny flowers appear from late spring until mid summer and make a good filler in flower arrangements. Cut plant back to 1 foot after flowering to encourage a new crop of flowering stems in the autumn. Very attractive to bees.
Sowing and/or growing instructions
Sow in spring in pots on the surface of good quality compost, barely covered, and place in a propagator or sealed plastic bag at 70F/20C . Germination takes 7-14 days. Can also be sown in the autumn in a cold frame.
