Sowing time/depth Feb-June,
A striking plant, with spiky, pink or mauve flowers from June to early Autumn on tall stems with palmate leaves. The whole plant has a musky odour that has been variously described as skunky or not unlike that of marijuana, though others think it more akin to citronella!
Sowing and/or growing instructions
Sow under glass in modules or a seed tray from February (for early flowering) to June, 1cm deep. Transplant into individual pots when large enough to handle and grow on, planting out in a sunny position after all risk of frost has passed. Alternatively, sow direct, thinning to approx. 45 cm apart. Dead-head regularly to promote successive flowering. May need staking in exposed areas.
