Geranium versicolor | ||||||||||||
Pencilled geranium | ||||||||||||
|
||||||||||||
This delightful geranium is semi-evergreen, but will form a fresh rosette of lobed leaves in Spring, followed by small, white flowers, intricately veined in deep magenta-pink. It will continue to flower, though less abundantly, throughout the summer and into autumn. Happy in full sun or part shade. Since there are similar geraniums growing in the garden, it is possible that there might be some cross-pollination, with some variation in the depth of the ground colour of the petals. NOTE: Plants, when offered, are sometimes sourced direct from the garden and may be cut back for delivery, but will soon generate new growth.
Sowing and/or growing instructions
Sow in very moist, but not water-logged, modules or small pots, .25in/6mm deep in spring or autumn. A little heat may aid germination, which should occur from about 10 days, but do not overheat (maximum 70F/20C) as this may deter germination. Grow seedlings on and in the case of autumn sowings, keep in a cold frame or sheltered spot during the winter, planting out in spring. Plants can over time become leggy, in which case they can be trimmed hard back. |
