Type/Hardiness Herbaceous, Perennial, Hardy
Flowering period Spring/early summer
Height 2-3in/5-8cm

Soil preference Any, free-draining
Sowing time/depth ,
A diminutive, mat-forming, alpine gypsophila, standing only about 2-3in high. Mounds of tiny, slightly hairy, mid-green leaves studded with many small, pink-veined flowers from late spring to early summer. An unusual and attractive semi-evergreen plant for rockeries, containers and the front of borders. It is happiest in gritty soil that is not over-fertile (it grows very well in gravel).
Sowing and/or growing instructions
Sow thinly and shallowly in slightly gritty, moist (but not waterlogged) compost at 20C-68F, transferring seedlings to individual pots or modules and growing on until large enough to plant out in free-draining, gritty soil. Over-wet soil can cause the plants to rot.
