The seeds offered were mostly from the variety illustrated, but from a couple of others too. In any case, they are very unlikely to come true, but it could be fun to see that they produce and you may even discover some unique variations of this attractive shade-loving plant!
Sowing and/or growing instructions
Prepare a pot containing a good quality, moist, but not water-logged, soil-less compost and sow thinly, gently pressing into the surface. Sieve a little more compost or fine vermiculite over the seeds, to barely cover them. Place pot in a sealed plastic bag and keep somewhere warm such as an airing cupboard (light is not required at this stage). Check frequently for germination and gently transplant any seedlings that emerge into small pots. They will now need 10-12 hours of light per day, so place them in a sunny window, but ensure that they remain moist. Misting when the sunlight is not directly on the seedlings is recommended. as is a weak liquid fertiliser every few weeks. When plants are strong enough, pot them on and grow them on in a sheltered spot until they are ready to plant out. |
