Oenothera glazioviana
Large-flowered evening primrose
|
||||||||||||
A biennial growing up to 1.5m tall, producing a basal rosette of crinkly leaves in the first year, followed by yellow blooms in the following year, which open from late afternoon to evening. Unlike its sister, O. biennis, the buds are reddish in colour.
Sowing and/or growing instructions
Sow on the surface of a good, preferably soil-based, compost at almost any time of year, barely covering with a little compost or fine vermiculite. Seeds will come up in their own time if kept outside, but you can hasten them on by keeping them in an unheated greenhouse. Grow on in individual pots, planting out when large enough. Can also be sown direct. |
