Physostegia virginiana 'Summer Snow'
Obedient plant, False dragonhead
Type/Hardiness Herbaceous, Perennial, Hardy
Flowering period Summer-early autumn
Height 18-24in/45-70cm
Light preference Sun/Part shade
Soil preference Any reasonable, free-draining soil
Sowing time/depth Feb-July, barely cover
This attractive and versatile plant grows 18-24in tall and has a long flowering season, producing strong spikes of tiny, brilliant-white foxglove-like flowers above mid-green, finely toothed foliage.
Sowing and/or growing instructions
Sow Feb-July on the surface of good quality, slightly gritty compost. Light aids germination so do not sow too deep, but barely cover with a little sieved compost or fine vermiculite. A temperature of 70-75F/20-25C will aid germination, which is often slow and erratic. Keep moist but do not over-wet. Grow seedlings on in a cold frame, planting out when large enough in sun or part shade.
