||||||||||||
A very pretty viola that is usually hard to come by, with flowers which are deepest midnight-blue to almost black, with deep yellow eyes. Although strictly speaking a hardy perennial, best treated as a half-hardy annual. The seeds gathered from these plants were fertilised when almost all other violas in the garden had been removed, and those that remained were at the other end of the garden, so although there is the possibility of some cross-pollination, this should be at a minimum, so most, if not all, should come true.
Sowing and/or growing instructions
Sow either direct in autumn or spring, or thinly in a pot of moist compost, covering with a fine layer of compost or vermiculite and storing in the fridge for three weeks, then move into a greenhouse at 58-65F (do not exclude light), potting on germinated seeds into individual pots of good quality, well drained compost. Acclimatise to outside conditions before planting out in final positions. |
