Sweet William, black
New!
Type/Hardiness Herbaceous, Perennial, Hardy
Flowering period Summer
Height
Light preference Sun (tolerates part-shade)
Soil preference Light, well drained
Sowing time/depth Spring,
These seeds were collected exclusively from this variety but it cannot be guaranteed that all will breed true, though they should produce a high proportion of dark-red to almost black blooms. Although strictly speaking a short-lived perennial, usually treated as a biennial.
Sowing and/or growing instructions
Sow thinly in early spring, covering with 1.5mm sieved compost or fine vermiculite. Does not require heat, but germination, which usually takes 10-14 days, may be hastened if sown in an unheated greenhosue. Transplant sedlings into individual pots or modules when large enough to handle and plant out, preferably in full sun, though light shade is tolerated, when all danger of frost is past.
